The role of personality traits and emotional intelligence in predicting academic stress among university students

According to previous studies, academic stress is related both basic personality traits and emotional intelligence (EI) as a trait which has demonstrated its relevance in numerous research regarding mental health domains. The present study sought examine the role of EI predicting academic-related stress, while controlling traits. A sample (N=288) completed: 1) Perceptions Academic Stress (PAS) Scale, measuring intensity 2) HEXACO PI-R comprising Honesty-Humility, Emotionality, Extraversion, Agreeableness, Conscientiousness Openness, 3) TEIQue, examining (encompassing factors Well-Being, Self-control, Sociability). subjects this online were students from University Belgrade. Four hierarchical regression models (entered 1st) 2nd) predictors, variables criterions variables, tested. explained 8-25% variance, predictors second block incrementally 5-7% variance stress. current data suggests that specific emotion-related dispositions encompassed by have significant indicates incremental predictive validity over practical implications obtained results refer importance programs for planned, targeted stimulation context education.
